Submission

Continuous Submission possible

Why?

We work at the intersection of developing technologies and social responsibility. This is why we support knowledge and technology transfer as well as life-long learning on an inter-organizational layer. For this, we are always in exchange with society, research, teaching and economy.

This can happen in the below listed formats for projects in science, education and society. If you have different ideas, contact us. We are looking forward to new creative ideas.

Whom?

You are a scientist, a researcher, a student or working in economy and want to cooperate with the excellence of institutions of higher education? Then you are at the right spot with us.

Our focus for 2023 lies on Project and innovation development as well as on Summer/Winter Schools. If you have different ideas, contact us. We are looking forward to new creative ideas.

Science

The CTS supports applications for project and innovation development in the field of knowledge and technology transfer as well as lifelong learning at the interface of technology development and social responsibility. In these development projects, it may be a matter of researching and formulating topics according to the state of the art, looking for specific coordination partners or writing up the content of further project applications.

CTS support may include the appointment of (predoctoral/postdoctoral) research assistants. In addition, it is a matter of

  • the development of expertise on the chosen topics through liaison and/or appointments in CTS,
  • the growth and promotion of young researchers in this subject area,
  • the introduction of trans- and interdisciplinary approaches and topics,
  • project participation also in potential follow-up projects and public presence on the selected topics.
CTS supports proposal development for doctoral programs. A doctoral college is a unit in which at least five to ten scientists come together to train doctoral students. On the one hand, the aim of the DK is to bundle scientific research, and on the other hand, to structure the work of the doctoral students in organizational terms. The doctoral students are employed as research assistants. Doctoral programs are a practical means of conducting current and innovative research.

Think tanks consist of committed scientists who are interested in new and future-oriented topics and deal with different aspects of such topics. Their activities are often temporary and can be organized through workshops, panels or the creation of joint position papers.

Think tanks can be used to explore those topics that interest researchers and faculty at CTS partners and should connect faculty and institutes across institutions. The CTS supports the development process of a think tank and, if necessary, moderates its work process and activities.

Particularly urgent topics at the interface of technology development and social responsibility can be addressed in a scientific symposium or workshop. The CTS supports the creation, conception and implementation of a scientific symposium or workshop, especially with a focus on cross-university initiation and implementation. In this way, issues of technical and socially relevant challenges can be highlighted, and research proposals or other more presuppositional modes of cooperation can be prepared.

Education

Every year, students have the opportunity to submit their bachelor’s/master’s thesis or dissertation dealing with a CTS-relevant topic to the CTS Student Awards. The theses are judged by a jury with representatives from academia and practice. The best submissions will receive a cash prize. The thesis of the winners will be promoted by CTS through several channels.
Learning and teaching formats can be developed for business partners (e.g., WKO, various trade guilds, industrial associations, etc.) in the field of technology development and social responsibility. Thus, any form of innovation education in the field of science, education and the exchange with society and business can be promoted. In addition, the consulting service of CTS can enable the joint formation of solutions.
During the lecture-free period, the annual summer/winter schools for students and academics from all over the world can be organized, reflecting the versatility of the scientific disciplines of the CTS. The aim is to give international visibility to those topics in the field of technology development and social responsibility. The aim of these schools is to bring renowned experts from the international discourse to Vienna as a university location and possibly to win them over for further cooperation.
Particularly urgent topics at the interface of technology development and social responsibility can be addressed in a symposium or workshop with a focus on education. The CTS supports the creation, conception and implementation of such a symposium or workshop, especially with a focus on cross-university initiation and implementation. In this way, issues of technical and socially relevant challenges can be highlighted, and research proposals or other more presuppositional modes of cooperation can be prepared.

Society

The target group of students, teachers and those of project assistants on CTS topics participate in regularly held idea competitions. The development and implementation of the idea competitions are funded by CTS as projects. CTS additionally supports the organization of the competition, if required.
The CTS supports the creation of Reaction Videos on the topics specifically related to technology and society. A Reaction Video is a web video that shows the reactions of one or more people to a specific event. One or more people react to an existing video or other event. The reaction may include one’s own opinion or a discussion and is posted on the CTS website.
The CTS supports the creation and maintenance of best practices on socio-technological topics and their multimedia visualization. This provides open access to transdisciplinary, national and international best practice examples.

Criteria

The projects we fund must meet criteria regarding cross-institutional, interdisciplinary cooperation, thematic classification, goals and target group orientation, interdisciplinarity, state of the art, ethical issues, (ecological) sustainability, added value for the CTS, inclusion and knowledge transfer. In addition, the quality of the proposal will be assessed.
