How can AI systems be developed in ways that meaningfully support people in their everyday lives without compromising their autonomy, decision-making capacity, or participation in society? This question brought together international researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers at the IFIP HCC17 – Human Choice and Computers Conference 2026 in Vienna. Under the theme “Combined Intelligence: Human-AI Systems in Everyday Contexts,” participants explored current research findings and future perspectives on the human-centered design of digital technologies.

On 10 September 2026, Dr.in rer. soc. oec. Anastasiya Savran successfully defended her dissertation at TU Wien. She is the first doctoral candidate of the STEAM – STEM – stART’em doctoral program initiated by the CTSi (short: STE[A+]M) to complete her doctorate.

On September 8 and 9, 2026, the CTSi (Center for Technology-driven Social Innovation), together with the CTSi//circle.responsibleComputing , will serve as a co-host of the international IFIP HCC17 “Human Choice and Computers” Conference at TU Wien. The renowned conference of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) brings together experts from academia, research, and practice to discuss current questions surrounding human-AI interaction and the societal implications of digital technologies.

On June 23, 2026, this year’s CTSi//midsommar.2026 took place in the Böcklsaal at TU Wien, bringing together participants from research, education, and professional practice for a shared afternoon of exchange. The event focused on the question of how social innovation can be shaped in the context of artificial intelligence and increasingly agentic systems.
